ACTIVATING EDUCATION AT A MOMENT’S NOTICE

Bachelor of Science in Nursing, 2021

UNM College of Nursing is ranked #1 in New Mexico by U.S. News & World Report and currently has more than 1,000 students enrolled.

On his first day in clinic orientation, Level 3 UNM College of Nursing student Ryan Nuñez watched his instructors jump into action when a patient began experiencing cardiac distress. Ryan immediately provided assistance to the clockwork team of nurses as they rapidly applied life-saving measures to stabilize the patient. And, because of his education, he felt ready to do so.

Before stepping foot in hospital clinics, UNM College of Nursing students, like Ryan, are given the opportunity to put the medical concepts they’ve learned into experiential practice—in New Mexico’s largest interdisciplinary skills and health simulation labs. Here, students safely tackle a vast array of medical scenarios and analyze patient histories, while honing techniques in patient experience and cultural sensitivity.

Through hands-on clinics, advanced labs, challenging classes and guidance from top-of-their-field faculty, UNM students become exceptionally well-prepared professionals—serving in critical health care positions and ready to activate their education at a moment’s notice for communities throughout New Mexico.
