Richard White

THIS IS...
HOW THE MUSIC WE MAKE CHANGES OUR WORLD

Associate Professor, Department of Music

UNM’s Music Prep School and Lab School bring vital music education to school-aged children, setting the stage for many to develop lifelong connections to the fine arts.

Through his own incredible life’s journey, from growing up homeless on the streets of Baltimore to performing on the world’s classical music stages, Associate Professor Richard White knows that every choice we make has the potential for positive change in our world. This potential for positive change, ignited through music, is the knowledge he passes on to UNM students.

This knowledge resonates and echoes throughout New Mexico’s communities. The music Lobos create and share play a key role in our state’s culture and vibrant music scene. From the symphony and opera to jazz festivals and, now, virtual concerts—you’ll find a Lobo on almost every stage.

Richard’s passion for his community, music and students burns brighter than ever. While he has traveled the globe as a motivational speaker, and been the subject of a feature-length documentary— Richard still considers being an educator at The University of New Mexico his greatest accomplishment.
