UNM alumna Nakía has always felt the call to confront injustice and bridge the gap of cultural history in education. As a prominent student and member of UNM’s Black Student Union and Black Student Alliance, she found that her voice, passion and resilience could empower the Lobo community.

Supported through UNM’s African American Student Services and Africana Studies program, Nakía continues to be a remarkable community organizer. In conjunction with the NM Office of African American Affairs and other organizations, she strengthens and educates her community through city-wide celebrations and commemorations of Black culture such as Juneteenth.
