In times like these, relaying health information to communities and rural regions throughout the state becomes a life or death endeavor. At the front line of these communications are students like Audrey Cooper, with The University of New Mexico’s College of Population Health.
Coming from New York, Audrey applied to UNM because she wanted to join a program within a health system dedicated to serving varied and underrepresented patients. Here, students dive deep into epidemiology and health policy and learn how to promote healthy communities inclusive of all cultures.
Working with the New Mexico Human Services Department, Audrey compiled COVID-19 data to use in strategic recommendations for the state and local governments. Alongside Cabinet Secretary Dr. David Scrase’s team, she helped create public displays of this information—including those broadcast in statewide updates.
By bridging the gap between researchers and our communities, the UNM College of Population Health continues to improve overall health outcomes and enact meaningful change in health policies across New Mexico.
